America Copy and Printing Co.

Designed and built a complete marketing site for a family owned Daly City print shop, replacing a dated presence with a static, dependency free site that ships from any CDN. Eight pages, all hand rolled HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript. No framework, no build step.

The interactive layer

The interactive layer was the interesting part. I specced and shipped a canvas based in browser Design Studio so customers can lay out a postcard or business card right on the site.

Multi tool drawing surface, full undo and redo, layer panel, alignment helpers, a brand aware color palette, and toggleable bleed and safe zone overlays for print accuracy. On submission, the canvas exports to a real PNG, attaches to the quote form via the DataTransfer API, and posts as a true multipart file attachment.

Instant quote calculator

I also built an instant quote calculator driven by a structured pricebook (paper × finish × sides × quantity tiers) with live breakdown and email handoff, plus a global search modal indexing content across pages.

Forms were the real lift

Seven submission paths in total: contact with file upload, design studio, and five product mini forms. All post multipart form data to a hidden iframe target, so customer artwork up to 10 MB and auto rendered design PNGs land in the shop's inbox as real attachments rather than text only references.

My role

Built collaboratively with Claude (Anthropic), where my role was prompt engineering, technical direction, code review, and product judgment. Working with Claude meant velocity was high but discipline had to be higher. I wrote tight prompts with concrete acceptance criteria, kept context loaded with the right files, audited every change against the running preview, and caught gaps the model missed (a fake success contact form that never sent, mini forms with no submit handler, a Yelp button red that did not match the emblem).

Takeaway

The site is the output. The prompt engineering is what made it ship.
